Of course some women do not regret their decision. But in what other serious moral dilemma do we judge the rightness or wrongness of an act by whether someone regrets it or not?
The truth is no woman knows for certain how she is going to feel after an abortion. Women can imagine how they will feel but they cannot say for definite the impact abortion and its aftermath will have on their lives. Often abortion is considered a quick fix that will allow them return to normal life. But the reality is that women often experience abortion regret only afterwards when it’s too late.
Some women regret abortion with indescribable pain that resurfaces at every anniversary of the abortion and of the due date, at every milestone their child will never pass.
Most women do not choose abortion because they believe in a right to choose. They choose abortion because they feel they have no other choice.
If we cannot guarantee that abortion will have a positive impact on women then how can we allow them go through with something that they could end up regretting for the rest of their lives?
